Hollow Lantern almost never plays dirty, but it does trust you to notice things. Every time I got stuck, the answer was a detail I'd walked past. The game rewards slowing down and really looking at each screen.

If you're stuck, revisit places you've already been. Objects change subtly as the story moves, and something inert an hour ago might suddenly be interactive. I kept a mental note of anything that seemed important but wasn't yet useful.

The sound design doubles as a hint system. A change in the ambient audio when you enter a room often means something is different or worth examining. I only noticed this halfway through and it made the back half far smoother.

Try not to look up solutions too fast. The satisfaction of spotting the thing yourself is the whole point of a game like this, and Hollow Lantern's puzzles are fair enough that patience almost always works.
